Few things in your wedding plan are as personal as your hair. It frames every photo, it has to survive a Singapore afternoon, and it should still feel like you at the end of the night. If you’re sorting out your wedding hair in Singapore and not sure where to start, this is the planning guide we’d give a bride sitting in our chair at Orchard.

We’ll cover the bridal styles brides ask for most, how to match a look to your dress, veil, face shape and venue, why a hair trial is worth it, and the booking timeline so you’re not scrambling in a peak month. Everything below is in-salon styling at our International Building studio near Orchard MRT.

There’s no single ‘right’ wedding hairstyle — but a few looks come up again and again because they photograph beautifully and hold up in our humidity. Here’s how we think about each one.

Soft romantic waves

Loose, brushed-out waves worn down or to one side. Flattering on most face shapes, lovely with a flowing gown, and the easiest to refresh through a long day. They suit brides who want to look effortless rather than ‘done’.

Classic updo

Hair swept up off the neck — timeless, elegant and the most secure for a full day of moving, hugging and dancing. Ideal if your gown has detail at the back or shoulders you want on show.

Half-up

The best of both: volume and shape up top, length left flowing below. It works well with veils and tiaras and is a favourite for ROM and tea ceremonies where you want something polished but relaxed.

Sleek low bun

A clean, modern low bun or chignon. Very photogenic, very ‘fashion’, and a strong choice for minimalist gowns or a sleek registry-office look. For more inspiration, see our roundup of wedding hairstyles for brides.

Matching your hair to dress, veil, face shape and venue

A style that looks stunning on a mood board can fight your actual gown. We always look at the whole picture before recommending a direction.

  • Neckline: a strapless or off-shoulder gown loves an updo or swept-to-one-side wave so the neckline stays the hero. A high or detailed neckline often pairs better with hair worn up and clean.
  • Veil & accessories: tell us early if you’re wearing a veil, tiara, comb or fresh florals — where the veil sits changes how we build the style and where we secure it. Half-up and updos give a veil something solid to anchor to.
  • Face shape: we adjust volume and where the hair sits to flatter your features — softness around a longer face, height and lift to balance a rounder one.
  • Venue & weather: an outdoor or garden setting in Singapore humidity needs a more secured style and a strong finish; an air-conditioned ballroom gives you more freedom to wear it down.

Bring photos of your gown and any accessories to your consultation so we can plan around the real thing, not a guess.

Why a hair trial matters — and what to bring

A hair trial is a run-through of your wedding-day look before the day itself. It’s where we test what actually holds on your hair, how the style sits with your accessories, and how it photographs — so the morning of your wedding has no surprises.

It also gives you time to react. Maybe the bun feels too tight, or you decide you want more height, or the waves drop faster than expected and we switch the prep. Far better to learn that at a trial than on the day.

What to bring:

  • Photos of your gown, and the veil/accessories if you have them
  • A few reference images of looks you love (and any you don’t)
  • Your hair worn the way it usually is, washed the day before rather than same-day
  • An idea of your venue and timing

Go in with our bridal hair trial checklist so nothing gets forgotten. Message us to book a trial slot and we’ll talk through your date and timings.

When to book: the wedding hair timeline

The single most common regret we hear is ‘I wish I’d booked earlier’. Bridal slots fill fast, and the festive and peak periods — think the months around Chinese New Year and the popular wedding-season weekends — go first.

A rough timeline

  • 6–9 months out: have your consultation and lock in your wedding-day styling date. If you’re also planning to refresh your colour, this is when we’d start mapping it.
  • 2–3 months out: do your hair trial, ideally close to your final colour and length so it reflects the real day.
  • 2–4 weeks out: last cut or trim, and any final colour top-up or gloss for shine in photos.
  • The week of: wash the day before, not the morning of — clean-but-not-squeaky hair holds a style best.

If your date lands in a busy festive window, reach out as early as you can. We can’t guarantee a specific time once a weekend is full, so contact us to discuss your date and we’ll do our best to hold it for you.

Prepping your hair in the months before

Healthy hair holds a style better and photographs better. The work for a great wedding-day look really starts months earlier.

Colour timing

Don’t leave colour to the last minute, and don’t do anything dramatic the week of. We like to settle your hair colour before the big day a couple of weeks out — enough time for the tone to soften into something natural and for any toning or gloss to do its job. If you’re going lighter or doing highlights, plan it across a few sessions rather than one big change.

Treatments

If your hair has been bleached, heat-styled or is feeling dry, a few hydrating treatments in the run-up make a real difference to shine and how the curls or waves hold. Our hydrating treatment runs $120–180, depending on length and condition (prices correct at time of writing — message us to confirm). We’ll tell you honestly what your hair actually needs rather than over-treating it.

Cuts & trims

Time your last trim for two to four weeks before so ends look fresh but the shape has settled. Tell your stylist it’s for your wedding so we cut with the final style in mind.

ROM, wedding day and tea ceremony — and how to book

Many brides in Singapore aren’t styling for one event but for several, often with different vibes. We’ll tailor each look to the occasion.

  • ROM / registry: usually softer and more relaxed — natural waves or a pretty half-up that suits a lighter dress and a smaller setting. See our dedicated bridal and ROM hair styling for what brides choose here.
  • Wedding day / banquet: the most secured and photographed look — often an updo or sleek low bun that lasts from ceremony through dinner and dancing.
  • Tea ceremony: a more traditional, neat style that complements a qun kua or cheongsam, and stays tidy through a busy, emotional morning.

All of this is in-salon styling at our Orchard studio — we don’t claim travel or on-location services, and we don’t sell fixed bridal packages here. Every bride’s timing, look and number of events is different, so the best next step is simply to talk it through with us. Contact us to discuss your date and we’ll plan the right approach for your celebration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book my wedding hair in Singapore? +

Aim to lock in your wedding-day styling date 6–9 months ahead, with a trial around 2–3 months before. Festive and peak weekends fill quickly, so the earlier you contact us, the better the chance of your preferred time.

Do I really need a hair trial? +

We strongly recommend one. A trial tests what holds on your hair, how the style sits with your veil and accessories, and how it photographs — so there are no surprises on the day. Bring photos of your gown and reference looks.

When should I colour my hair before the wedding? +

Settle your colour about two weeks before so the tone softens naturally and any toning or gloss has time to work. If you’re going lighter or adding highlights, plan it across a few sessions rather than one drastic change. See our colour services to plan ahead.

Can you do hair for my ROM, wedding day and tea ceremony? +

Yes — we tailor a look to each occasion, from a soft natural style for ROM to a secured updo for the banquet and a neat traditional look for the tea ceremony. Tell us how many events you have and we’ll plan each one. This is in-salon styling at our Orchard studio.

Do you offer on-location or travel hair styling? +

No — all our bridal styling is done in-salon at our Orchard studio in International Building. If you need styling done at a venue or hotel, we’re happy to point you in the right direction, but the styling itself is at our chair.

How much does bridal hair cost and do you have packages? +

Every bride’s timing, look and number of events is different, so we don’t list a fixed bridal package or price here. The best step is to message us at +65 8335 1511 to discuss your date and what you need, and we’ll talk you through it.
