Types of perms we offer in Singapore
The right perm depends on your hair length, density, condition and the look you want. Here are the main options we work with at our Orchard salon:
- Korean perm (C-curl & S-curl): soft, natural-looking curves rather than tight ringlets. C-curl gives a gentle inward bend at the ends; S-curl adds flowing waves through the mid-lengths. Popular for an effortless, lived-in finish.
- Digital (hot) perm: uses controlled heat to set fuller, more defined curls that show up most when hair is dry. Great for medium to long hair and anyone who wants curls that bounce back after washing.
- Cold perm: a no-heat method that creates springy curls most visible when hair is damp or scrunched. Often kinder to finer or more fragile hair and ideal for tighter, textured curls.
- Volume & root perm: targets the crown and roots to lift flat hair, rather than curling the lengths — a quiet favourite for thin or limp hair.
- Men's perm & down perm: texture and movement on top for men, plus down perms to tame sides and a stubborn cowlick.
Not sure which is which? Our ultimate guide to perms in Singapore breaks down digital vs cold and Korean vs Japanese in plain language.
How to choose the right perm for your hair
There's no single "best" perm — only the best one for your hair and lifestyle. A few quick pointers:
- Want soft, natural waves with little fuss? A Korean C-curl or S-curl usually fits.
- Love defined, bouncy curls and don't mind a bit of styling? A digital perm tends to give that springy, dry-curl look.
- Have finer or more delicate hair, or want tighter texture? A cold perm is often the gentler choice.
- Just want body, not curls? A volume or root perm lifts flat hair without committing to ringlets.
It also depends on hair condition
Previously coloured, rebonded or heavily processed hair changes how a perm takes — and how much heat or strength is safe. That's exactly what the in-person consultation is for. If you're also thinking about colour or a smoothing treatment, browse our full hair treatments so we can plan the right order and timing for everything together.
How long does a perm last in Singapore?
Most perms hold their shape for roughly a few months before gradually relaxing, but the exact lifespan depends on several things — and Singapore's climate is one of them.
- Perm type: digital perms often hold their defined curl a little longer than soft cold-perm waves.
- Hair length & weight: longer, heavier hair can pull curls looser over time.
- Your hair's natural texture and porosity: healthier, less porous hair tends to hold a curl better.
- Aftercare: how soon and how you wash, and the products you use, make a real difference.
- Humidity: Singapore's heat and moisture can cause frizz, so curl-friendly products and the right wash routine matter more here than in drier climates.
A perm grows out softly rather than dropping all at once, so it ages gracefully — no harsh regrowth line like a colour. When you're ready to refresh it, just book in again.
The process & consultation — and our honest hair-health policy
Every perm at His & Her Hairloft starts with a proper consultation. We look at your hair's condition, length and history (colour, rebonding, previous perms), talk through the look you want, and recommend the perm type, curl size and strength that will actually suit you — not just whatever's trending.
On the day, we section and wind the hair, apply the perm solution, process and set the curl (with heat for a digital perm, without for a cold perm), then neutralise to lock it in. A finishing rinse and style lets you see the result before you leave.
We won't perm over-damaged hair without care
This is where we'll be straight with you. If hair is already over-processed, very brittle or breaking, we may recommend a gentler approach, a strengthening or conditioning plan first, or holding off rather than risk further damage. A perm that wrecks your hair isn't worth it. If we suggest waiting, it's because we'd rather you keep your hair healthy and perm well later. Have questions before booking? Just get in touch.
Perm aftercare in Singapore's humidity
How you treat a fresh perm in the first couple of days largely decides how well it lasts. A few essentials:
- First 48 hours: don't wash, tie tightly or clip your hair. The curl is still settling, and getting it wet or crushing it too early can loosen the shape.
- Washing: after that initial window, wash gently and not too often. Use a sulphate-free, curl-friendly or moisturising shampoo and condition the mid-lengths to ends.
- Drying & styling: scrunch rather than rub, and either air-dry or use a diffuser on low heat to keep curls defined.
- Products: a light curl cream or leave-in helps fight frizz in our humidity, which is the number-one thing that flattens perms in Singapore.

Men's perms at our Orchard barber
Perms aren't just for women. A men's perm adds natural texture, volume and movement on top — perfect if your hair sits flat, and it pairs beautifully with a clean fade or taper on the sides. A down perm is the opposite: it tames hair that flicks out around the sides and back, or flattens a stubborn cowlick for a neater finish.
We tailor the curl size and strength to your style and how much daily styling you're up for — from a subtle wave to a fuller, textured crop. Men's perms are handled at our Orchard barber under the same roof as the salon.
Thinking about it? Our Korean hair perm guide for men in Singapore covers the popular styles and what to expect, so you can walk in with a clear idea.
Who does your perm
Chemical work is the part of hairdressing where experience shows, so perms here are handled by our senior stylists. Jamie and Wei Ling each have over 20 years behind the chair and are masters for both men's and women's hair, including chemical work — perms, rebonding, keratin smoothing and colour. Men's perms and down perms are done alongside Ammar, who has over 10 years in men's grooming, so the cut and the curl are planned together.
You can meet the team here before you book.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a perm last?
Most perms hold their shape for a few months before gradually relaxing. Hair length, your natural texture, the perm type and your aftercare all affect it, and Singapore's humidity makes curl-friendly products and a gentle wash routine especially important.
What's the difference between a Korean, digital and cold perm?
A Korean perm gives soft, natural C-curl or S-curl shapes. A digital (hot) perm uses heat for fuller, defined curls that show most when hair is dry. A cold perm uses no heat for springy curls best seen when hair is damp, and is often gentler on finer hair.
Will a perm damage my hair?
Any chemical service stresses the hair, but a perm done with the right strength and proper aftercare keeps damage minimal. We assess your hair first and, if it's already over-processed or fragile, we'll recommend a gentler option or holding off rather than risk it.
Can I perm coloured or rebonded hair?
Often yes, but it depends on how much your hair has already been processed and its current condition. Previously coloured, rebonded or chemically straightened hair changes how a perm takes, so we check it in person and advise on safe timing during your consultation.
Do you do men's perms?
Yes. We do men's perms for texture and volume on top, and down perms to tame sides or a cowlick, handled at our Orchard barber under the same roof. We tailor the curl to your style and how much daily styling you want.
How do I keep my perm from going frizzy in Singapore's humidity?
Avoid washing or tying it for the first 48 hours, then wash gently with a sulphate-free, moisturising shampoo, scrunch-dry rather than rub, and use a light curl cream or leave-in to fight humidity frizz. Our climate aftercare guide has the full routine.
Do I need an appointment for a perm?
We take walk-ins and appointments, but a perm takes time in the chair, so it is best booked ahead. Call or WhatsApp +65 8335 1511 and we will find you a slot. We are at 360 Orchard Road, open Monday to Friday 9:00am to 7:30pm and Saturday to Sunday 10:30am to 7:00pm.
How much does a perm cost?
Pricing varies by hair length, the perm type and your hair's condition, so we don't quote a flat figure. We'll give you a clear quote at your consultation before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
