The Blonde Bible: The Science of Lifting Asian Hair (Zero Breakage Protocol)

His and Her Hairloft by Jamie
Celebrity hair styling inspiration for salon clients

There is a misconception in Singapore that Asian hair cannot go blonde without being destroyed. We have all seen the results of poor chemistry: hair that snaps when brushed or turns a “rusty penny” orange.

Achieving a clean, expensive blonde on Level 1 (Black) Asian hair is effectively a medical procedure for your hair strands. It requires precise chemistry, patience, and the right candidate.

The Science of Lift

The “Underlying Pigment” Reality

Asian hair is naturally Level 1 (Black). As we lift it, we expose the warm undertones that live beneath. You cannot skip these stages:

  • Red/Orange (Levels 1-5): The “rusty” stage. Toner cannot make this ash blonde yet.
  • Yellow (Levels 6-8): The “banana” stage. Ideal for Milk Tea and Beige colors.
  • Pale Yellow (Level 9-10): The inside of a banana peel. This is the only canvas that accepts Silver or Pastel.

Bond Builders (Non-Negotiable)

Bleach breaks disulfide bonds to remove color. Without protection, the structure collapses (mushy hair). We utilize Olaplex or K18 in every bleach bowl. These act as “molecular superglue,” holding the bonds together while the color is stripped away.
